Colour your cases
Handy way to find your luggage on the public is to tie a bright coloured luggage tag on the handles of the bags.If everyone has the same suitcase you can all have your own colour this makes it much easier at hotels as well.
Use your own Padlocks
Use your own padlocks instead of the padlocks supplied with suitcases, it is usually safer. Remember to keep the keys in your carry-on luggage.
Foreign Electricity
Because electric current in most overseas countries is 200v, travelers taking North American 110v appliances must also take a step down converter or transformer.
Keep contact
Leave a copy of your travel itinerary with someone at home and keep in regular contact with friends and relatives while overseas.
Do you have a valid Visa?
Check to see if you require visas for the country or countries you are visiting or transiting. Be aware that a visa does not guarantee entry.
E-mail yourself
Before you go always email yourself a copy of all the important information - airline numbers, credit card phone numbers, passport and driving licence numbers. That way if your documents and/or wallet is lost or stolen, all you need to do is log on to access all your details.
Travel insurance
Take out appropriate travel insurance to cover hospital treatment, medical evacuation and any activities, including adventure sports, in which you plan to participate.
Convert your Cash
Convert some of your cash to the currency of the country you are visiting before departure to get a better deal.
Passport Expiration
Make sure your passport has at least six months validity and carry additional copies of your passport photo with you in case you need a replacement passport while overseas. |
